Sudoku apps compared
Compare Unisu, Sudoku.com, Oakever and Brainium by their documented ads, hint explanations, learning options and supported devices.
Four apps, the same questions
We make Unisu. This comparison is written by the Unisu team.
Sources checked October 28, 2026: Unisu product documentation, German iOS listings and the linked developer support pages. We have not tested the three other apps on devices for this comparison. The selection is not a ranking by downloads.

The best Sudoku app for you depends on what you want from a game: understanding the next logical step, finding regular new challenges or playing on an iPad. Here is how four apps compare on their documented features.
To understand the reasoning
Unisu combines puzzle play with guided lessons and practice. A hint first points to the relevant area, then explains the reasoning and finally reveals the placement or candidate elimination. Each puzzle has three hints; all explanation stages for the same move count as one. You still enter the numbers yourself.
Brainium is also worth considering for learning while you play. Its product page explicitly describes hints that explain the logic. Oakever also lists explanatory hints. A feature list cannot tell you which explanation you will find easier to follow.
For daily challenges and events
Sudoku.com by Easybrain lists daily challenges and seasonal events. Oakever and Brainium also list daily puzzles. Difficulty labels are not a shared scale: level four in one app need not match level four in another.
To play without ads
The Unisu version documented here has no ads or in-app purchases. This does not promise that all future content will be free. Check the price and included content of the version offered in your store.
Easybrain and Oakever list ad-removal purchases; Oakever also lists subscriptions. Brainium’s iOS support describes a one-time ad-removal purchase. Before buying, check exactly which ads and optional offers the purchase covers in that app.
For iPad or offline play
The three competing listings include iPhone and iPad. Unisu is designed for smartphones. The other apps’ documented tablet support is therefore relevant if an iPad is your main device.
Unisu stores puzzles and lessons locally; installation, updates and sending a contact request need a connection. Sudoku.com describes offline play in its listing. The sources used here do not clearly establish Oakever’s or Brainium’s offline scope. This comparison does not include airplane-mode tests on physical devices.
Selection and sources
These are three classic Sudoku apps alongside Unisu. Easybrain and Oakever have substantial review counts in the German store; Brainium adds an explicitly described learning approach. Review counts are not download figures or evidence of a test winner.
The table headings link to the apps. Brainium’s linked product and support pages also inform the comparison. Unisu’s statements were checked against our product documentation and real app screens. The reference market is Germany on iOS; translating this page does not imply separate tests in eight countries.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps have no ads?
